Rebekah Murphy

Counseling Intern

Supervised by Jill Baumgarner, LPC

Rebekah is a counseling intern who works with individuals, couples, and other relational units seeking to explore their identities and grow in their relationships. Starting the therapy process can feel daunting, so she makes a point to take the mystery out of the process for her clients.

Her number one priority is that you feel supported and empowered to be an active part of your work with her. Her goal is to create a collaborative environment where each person’s unique experience is both seen and valued.

Rebekah believes that the therapeutic relationship is the foundation for healing and empowerment. For partners, this looks like working as a team to discover better ways to communicate, increase intimacy, and grow in your relationship. For individuals, authentic connection can allow you to explore past experiences and their impact. She hopes that you will experience a feeling of safety, non-judgment, and curiosity as you explore these things together.

Rebekah’s goal is for clients to leave every session feeling seen, heard, and optimistic about their ability to grow.

Additionally, Rebekah works with couples and partnerships navigating desire differences, life transitions, and the parenting journey. She also works with individuals experiencing depression, anxiety, self-esteem issues, and religious harm.

Approach to Counseling

Rebekah's approach to counseling is based in Relational-Cultural Therapy (RCT). Essentially, this means a belief that we grow in and through our relationships with others and ourselves.

Sometimes our past can prevent us from connecting authentically in our relationships, so uncovering these barriers is a core part of our growth.

Counseling should also be practical for daily life. Each session is an opportunity to develop strategies that will help you navigate the challenges of life. Rebekah believes you are the expert in your own experience and possess all the tools you need to grow and thrive.

Education

Rebekah is currently in the internship portion of the Master’s in Counseling program at Texas State University. Her expected graduation date is May 2024.
