Group therapy offers a safe, supportive environment where individuals can develop interpersonal skills, gain new perspectives, and learn from others’ experiences while improving relationships and mental health. Group therapy is an evidence-based modality that is helpful on its own or as a supplement to other types of therapy such as individual and couples therapy. The group's goals are to share feelings and emotions, connect deeply, build community, explore gender and cultural roles, give and receive support, improve self-expression, alleviate anxiety, and build confidence.
Step 1: Initial Consultation
Before joining the group, you’ll meet with your therapist one-on-one to discuss your goals for group therapy. This intake meeting ensures you are matched with the right group for your needs.
Step 2: Group Participation
Group therapy sessions foster a sense of community and belonging. Once in a group, you’ll engage in open discussions that encourage you to express your emotions, feelings, and thoughts as they arise. This will allow you to gain deeper insight into yourself and your relationship patterns.
Group Therapy Agreements
Confidentiality: What happens in the group stays in the group. All members agree to keep group discussions private.
Active Participation: Group members are encouraged to speak openly about their feelings during group sessions to gain the full benefit of therapy.
Commitment: Members commit to attending sessions regularly and engaging with the group as part of their therapy journey.
