Alex Birch
Counseling Intern
Supervised by Jill Robertson, LPC
Alex is passionate about providing a non-judgmental, safe space for clients to feel heard. They work with both individuals and couples struggling with depression, anxiety, body image, emotional regulation, and self-esteem issues. They also work with clients who have experienced complex trauma and childhood wounds. Alex is passionate about helping you recognize your strengths, develop self-compassion, understand your needs, and build resilience.
Alex’s goal as a therapist is for clients to feel empowered, acknowledge and understand their emotions, practice vulnerability, and embrace the healing journey. Alex understands that recognizing and processing through difficult memories and complex emotions are challenging, especially while showing up for daily responsibilities. Alex is aware that navigating life within our societal structure can make showing up to your responsibilities and addressing your needs even more challenging. Alex utilizes an intersectional approach while working with clients. Ultimately, Alex wants their clients to recognize that it is possible to heal, work through triggers, and move forward with resilience.
Approach to Counseling
Alex uses an eclectic approach to therapy, utilizing Emotion-Focused Therapy Techniques, Dialectical Behavioral therapy techniques, and mindfulness techniques to help you understand your emotions, identify and process the root of your hurt, and communicate your needs effectively. This also means that you will explore the connection between your thoughts and language and its influence on your emotions and actions. Furthermore, you will explore and process events in childhood that have affected how you form relationships with yourself and others. In the therapeutic space, Alex prioritizes creating a safe space to process through traumatic events and help you build confidence to approach the challenges in your life.
Alex identifies as LGBTQ+ and BIPOC and works to uphold a safe and non-judgmental space for all.
Education
Alex is currently a Master of Clinical Mental Health Counseling Graduate Student at St. Edwards University.
