Kat Weiss-Malik
Counseling Intern
Supervised by Jill Baumgarner, LPC
Kat Weiss-Malik is a Counseling Intern who sees couples and individuals working on couples communication, boundaries in relationships, blended families, and understanding intense emotions. Kat will support you in exploring your thoughts, feelings, and actions and how those impact the relationships in your life.
Kat sees couples and people in relationships that would like to have better communication, greater connection, and more joy in their partnerships. She guides clients to improve their understanding and listening within relationships, so they can enjoy their time together even more.
Kat also sees people who are experiencing intense emotions but aren’t sure where those feelings are coming from. If you are feeling stuck in your life and relationships, Kat will help you find the path to change and move forward.
People seeking therapy may worry about sharing vulnerable thoughts and feelings, in fear of judgment from their therapist. Kat provides a safe and accepting place to be curious about all feelings and experiences.
Approach to Counseling
Kat uses Internal Family Systems techniques to help you understand the different parts that make up who you are. When you connect more deeply to the different parts of your personalities, you can shift lifelong patterns and find greater happiness.
Using NARM (NeuroAffective Relational Model) techniques, Kat will help you identify patterns that are disrupting your relationships and explore what’s getting in the way of your hopes and dreams, so you can get what you truly want. Kat also integrates mindfulness practices in session to help you understand yourself better.
Kat believes that clients are the experts on themselves and their own lives. She is here to support you as you find the answers you are looking for inside yourself.
Education
Kat is in her clinical Internship semesters for her Master's Degree in Counseling from Texas State University. Her expected graduation is Spring 2023.
Kat has further training within Internal Family Systems, NARM (NeuroAffective Relational Model), and Mindfulness.
She is curious and open to feedback in the therapy process.
